In our perpetual pursuit of Singaporean fine dining, K and I went to Miao Yi in Bukit Timah for some pre-exam nourishment. The restaurant is in a shopping centre and is well known and loved by locals.
The waitress explained that the restaurant is always packed at weekends and also on the 1st and 15th of every month when many Chinese recognise the traditional Buddhist observance of Vegetarianism.
All the dishes are made of tofu or soya but are made to resemble meat dishes. We had a mock pork dish (see picture) and some mock chicken satay skewers. We also tried a herbal soup which is said to boost blood circulation and improve general immunity. I would highly recommend the restaurant to any of you who could not possibly fathom a meal that did not involve a generous helping of meat!
