Wanting to do something to help Miyagi Tsunami?

Any foreigner who has spent an extended period in Northern Japan will have a picture in their album like the one above. It signifies the generosity, warmth and hospitality that is shown to foreigners who come and live and work in a rural community.

Following the tsunami, a lot of Ex JET programme particpants have been working together across timezones and various online communities.  The conversation has very quickly turned to how we can help rebuild and repair a region that gave so much to us in terms of kindness and hospitality. While in the short-term, the rehabilitation is best left to experts, there are a large number of people who are looking at ways to contribute. For anyone who is interested in joing any potential projects, please refer to the online group here.

I am looking forward to seeing the smiling faces of my friends and students in the picture above...
